What is a Leased Line?
A leased line is a symmetrical communications circuit that provides a dedicated connection between two facilities. Sometimes know as a 'Private Circuit' or 'Data Line'. Unlike traditional PSTN lines it does not have a telephone number, each side of the line being permanently connected to the other. The lines are typically 'conditioned' to provide relatively error-free transmission. In the Hashimite Kingdom of Jordan, leased lines are available at speeds from 64Kbs increasing in 64Kbs increments to 2Mbs over a channelised E1 tail circuit.
